Cute newt

There were lots of newts, all very busy - but my camera has quite a delay so I kept missing them by about thirty seconds. This is the only photo that I managed to get with a newt in shot. The others were all of random pieces of plant and empty stretches of water.

I only went up to pick a bit of spinach really!

Happy gardening (and newt sighting)

Awwww :) I think we'll try a wildlife pond next year all being well (there's just too much else to do this year) as it'll be fun to see what takes up residence. How long have you had yours? Is it pretty much build it and let nature do her work?

We dug it over the course of one winter but I can't honestly remember how many years ago now. Five maybe? Mostly, the critters just moved in after we'd filled it, but (shh, don't tell anyone) a bloke from the allotment office at the council told me they were going to shift an old galvanised tank which had some newts in, so J and I carried out a rescue mission and "re-homed" quite a few!
The pond's been great though, you should go for it if you've got the time and energy. It's worth it just to sit and gaze at it in the summer with dragonflies and newts and frogs and pond skaters to keep you occupied....mind you, you might think of that as time wasting.
